Konami’s Silent Hill franchise has faced a lot of criticism over its last few instalments, and deservedly so as well. Ever since ‘Team Silent’ stopped working on the series after Silent Hill 4: The Room the franchise hasn’t been able to hit a home run. Having said that, those classics endure despite several gameplay flaws, what makes them so incredible is their story and atmosphere. Silent Hill Downpour was aspiring to be a return to form for the franchise, taking notes from the franchises’ greatest achievement, Silent Hill 2, with a protagonist separate from the town’s cult and having a mysterious reason for ending up in Silent Hill. But as a game, it also ends up as a weird hybrid sitting between Homecoming and Shattered Memories. Overall, the game itself is exactly what the franchise needed, but it still has a long way to go before it gets close to what it was. Anyway, it’s time to dive right into the review, so let’s get started shall we? Back to that lonely town, Silent Hill.
